The Grand Story

We all have a story.
Each uniquely ours.
But we are also part of a much bigger story . . . a grand story . . . God's story.

Who is God?

The creator of the universe -

'You alone are the LORD. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and all their starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you.'  Nehemiah 9:6

What is He like?

In his own words -

Then the LORD passed by in front of him and proclaimed, "The LORD, the LORD God, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness and truth; who keeps lovingkindness for thousands, who forgives iniquity, transgression and sin; yet He will by no means leave the guilty unpunished . . . " Exodus 34:6-7

Can we know him?

Yes, we can. We may not fully understand him, but we can know Him.

'You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.' Jeremiah 29:13

'And we know that the Son of God has come, and he has given us understanding so that we can know the true God.'  1 John 5:20a

Why are we here?

It's all part of His plan -

God created us in His own image, to be His children and to bring Him glory.

'For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: "I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people.' 2 Corinthians 6:16a

But something is not right. What went wrong?

We rebelled -

Choosing to satisfy self and rebel against God led to separation and disharmony. This disharmony exists within each of us, between God and us, among people, and between people and the earth.

'For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.' Romans 3:23

'Indeed, there is no one on earth who is righteous, no one who does what is right and never sins.' Ecclesiastes 7:20

How does God respond?

God must be true to His character - He is holy:

'He will by no means leave the guilty unpunished.' Exodus 34:6-7

For it is written, "Be holy, because I am holy." 1 Peter 1:16

'For the wages of sin is death . . . ' Romans 6:23a

Yet God is also merciful -

But by His great mercy, knowing that we can by no means save ourselves, God provided a means of escape from the punishment we all deserve.

'For while we were still helpless, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. For one will hardly die for a righteous man; though perhaps for the good man someone would dare even to die. But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.' Romans 5:6-8

'For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.' Romans 6:23

What can I do?

Turn away from your sins and believe God -

"The time has come," he said. "The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!" Mark 1:15

They replied, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved." Acts 16: 31

'If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved.' Romans 10:9-10

'We implore you on Christ's behalf: Be reconciled to God. God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.' 2 Corinthians 5: 20b-21

'Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.' John 5:24

****************

This is just an outline; there is so much more to God's amazing story of redemption . . . so many blessings in store for those who choose to accept God's free gift of salvation. Luckily for us, God has left His word-- The Holy Bible -- for us to discover even more. Why not dive in today?

'The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy;
I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.'
