Books for the Journey

I love books! Sometimes I wish I could clone myself so I could find the time to read all the books I want to read (smile). Some books make me laugh, some make me cry, some make me smarter and some leave an indelible mark on my heart. Those are the books that have aided me in my journey... my journey of life from dust towards the heavens, and I thought I'd share some with you.  So here goes, a potpourri of some of my favorite books for the journey.

The Holy Bible
The only one essential book... written by God... alive and active... this is the only book that you can spend your whole life reading, and yet never finish; it never grows old and always speaks life into your journey. You may choose the print, audio, or digital version of hundreds of translations. The ones I like are NIV, ESV, NKJV, and the Bible App by YouVersion. You can get your copy of the Life Application Study Bible HERE

Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis
This book has the power to change or at the very least clarify your 'big picture' view of life. Simply put - this book should be read by ALL who call themselves Christians and ALL who do not. You can get your copy HERE.

The Master's Indwelling by Andrew Murray

I downloaded this classic for free on Kindle one day, and it was months before I read it. But when I did, I was swept away. Convicting! Powerful! Profound! Life-changing! A must-read for all of us who struggle to understand the full breadth, depth and power of God's spirit within us. You can grab your copy HERE.

Mastering Life Before It's Too Late by Robert J. Morgan

I loaned this one to my sister, but then I kept asking back for it. I just felt I had to keep it close... you know... to take notes. Everything in it makes sense. It is biblically sound, yet profound in its simplicity as it outlines the 'godly rhythms of productive people'.  It shows me clearly how a 'God-planned life actually relieves stress and produces a more relaxed yet resolute lifestyle'. Isn't that what we are all after? You can get your copy HERE

The Knowledge of the Holy by A.W. Tozer

'What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.' And so it begins. This small, unassuming paperback takes me on a journey deeper into the heart of God. This is not one meant to rush through, one must take the time to chew carefully the profound truths found in this timeless classic. You can get your copy HERE.

This is one of those books I never would have picked up on my own. That word 'success' is so often tainted by the world's expectations. But, on a prompting from my sister, I read it and I'm sure glad I did. For month's after, I would refer to Dani's advice, like I was recalling heart to heart conversations with a wiser, more experienced friend. Secretly, I wished I had the bravery to do what Dani did. One Thousand Gifts by Ann Voscamp

If you're not one of the millions who've read this book, then run and grab a copy. There's a reason it's a bestseller. Written in a beautifully non-traditional style, this book pulls you in and captivates you. You see the world differently when you are through with it. And those gifts that have been hiding around you all the while, they suddenly come to life. Grab your copy HERE.

Grandpa's Box by Starr Meade

Yes, we are all fighting a great war, and this book designed for ages 9-12 does an excellent job of 'retelling the biblical story of redemption'. I still fondly remember all the deep, searching conversations I had with my kids as we read through this book. Priceless! In a most engaging style, Starr Meade shows us that one day, 'all [God's] soldiers, however hard their battles were, will finally be home from the war'. You can get your copy HERE.

Thoughts to Make Your Heart Sing by Sally Lloyd Jones

Seeing as I was already smitten by The Jesus Storybook Bible, I just had to get this one. My kids were bigger, but it really was for me. I love words, and Sally Lloyd-Jones captures them in a poetic dance that truly makes my heart sing to the Lord. Simply beautiful. Get your copy HERE.

The Jesus Storybook Bible by Sally Lloyd-Jones

'Every story whispers His name.' Oh, I can't state enough how much I love this book. I bought it for my kids, but really it's for me too. The beautifully lyrical writing style of Sally Lloyd-Jones enchantingly portrays the bible as it is - one story all about Jesus and His love for us. It is simply magical, I tell you. For a homeschooler who had started to lose her spark and was on the verge of burnout, this book was a God-send. I had resisted reading it at first, thinking there would be nothing I didn't already know, but I'm sure glad I did. This book resonates with me at the deepest level and reminds me of the peace that is possible when I know whose 'well done' I'm working for. If you're a homeschooler, be sure to get your copy HERE.

What We Believe Series by Apologia

This series was an answer to prayer. I found it through a simple Google search, in an attempt to help my pre-teen son with questions he was having. Now, years later, I am so thankful that we have finished the entire series.  Designed as a biblical worldview of God and Truth, it took my kids and I on an incredible journey into the basic truths of the Christian faith. Exciting stories and solid biblical teaching - a win-win in my home! You can get the first book in the series - Who is God? And Can I Really Know Him? HERE
