About Me

Okay, I give up!

I really relish fading into the background, literally cringe when all eyes turn on me, but I'm learning. Learning to be comfortable in my own skin... learning that it is hard to build community... to shine for Christ and to spread His peace in this prickly world by hiding in the background.

And besides, there just might be someone out there who is curious about me, who is wondering just who is Carlie.

So (taking a long, slow, deep breath), here I go!

I'm a Caribbean-living:

  • wife of 27 years to one wonderfully kind and generous man who definitely keeps me laughing.
  • mother to one strong-willed, and secretly compassionate teenage son, who brags that he can beat his mom on an IQ test; and one bright, super-imaginative, and loving teen daughter, who is colored pink from the inside out. I didn't do anything to deserve them and am overwhelmed by the blessings they have been in my life.
  • daughter to one amazingly strong and feisty Caribbean woman and one gentle giant of a man.
  • sister to an incredibly loyal and supportive gang who I am honored to call family.
  • grateful friend to several gifts from God who walk alongside me on this adventure of a lifetime.
  • lover of nature and all things simple. Often found in jeans and a t-shirt, savoring the simpler things but not spending quite as much time as I would like in the outdoors. (Ah, well.)
  • earthen vessel saved by God. I don't deserve His mercy and can't do anything to earn His love, so rather than use my introverted personality as an excuse, I'm learning how to rely on His power to spread the aroma of the knowledge of Christ in this prickly world. Humbled that He chooses to use me at all.
So, there you have it... a quick snippet of what makes me me. And to round it off for those of you who want a bit more detail:

I was trained and worked for a number of years in the healthcare field (as a clinical pharmacist) before choosing to educate my children at home. A road less traveled for sure, often misunderstood, even frowned upon, especially in my community, but one my husband and I felt was God's plan for our family.

Since then, life has been quite an adventure. And in God's adventure school, I'm learning. I'm not always a fast learner, but He is an extremely patient teacher, thankfully. So, I'm learning what it means to not take myself so seriously, to embrace life and laugh at myself even when I make mistakes, and most of all to truly trust God as His plan unfolds for my life.

I remain so grateful for family and friends, and for you who join me as we learn together, grow together, laugh together on our journey from dust towards the heavens.

May grace and peace be multiplied to you.

  8. Thank you for sharing and about yourself. I have what I call "stage fright"; basically speaking out in front of people. Have been putting forth the courage to change that because we cannot keep what we have if we do not share with others. It becomes stagnant within us! So keep pushing forward; With God ANYTHING is possible - AMEN Have a blessed and beautiful day!! God Bless
